RCC 50th Anniversary Dinner

On Monday 12^th May 2014 the Club will be holding its 50^th anniversary dinner at The Corn Stores which is located between Reading Station and the Club meeting place. We shall have sole use of the first floor.

The price will be £10/ per person for members and partners. The real cost is more but we have agreed that we should make up the difference from Club funds to make the prices reasonable.

This will include choices of starter and main course, with coffee/ tea to follow. You will have to pay for your own drinks and desserts.

March Meeting

As has become the tradition, the weather turned in our favour for the annual club auction – those this year helped by being March rather than February! With a 90+ percent turnout, 32 bidding paddles were issued – the highest number for many many years. A slightly smaller auction (some 30 lots less than last year) generated a total sale value of £1065.90, of which £215.90 was generated by the sale of the library of Bryan Dewhirst – a huge thank you to his family for this very generous donation to the club. This meant a rather lovely club commission (including donations) of £307.74. Some highlights of the sale include:

• Lot 190 – CW Peck; English Copper, Tin and Bronze Coins in the British Museum - £70
• Lot 7 – 1696 William III Crown, Octavo - £68
• Lot 27 – 1865 Victoria Florin, Die number 4 - £53
• Lot 36 – 1887 Victoria Double Florin, Arabic 1 - £48
• Lot 23 - 1828 George IV Half Crown - £44
• Lot 195 – Five books on British Tokens - £44
• Lot 20 - 1822 George IV Crown, Secundo - £38

Another great year for the auction – long may it continue!
